3 tips for buying a shower mixer

Choosing the right mixer for your bathroom depends on your needs. Here are a few things to consider:

  • If you want a shower column and a hand shower or a bath spout, choose a mixer with two outlets.

  • Consider getting a mixer with two outlets if you need running water for other purposes, such as filling a bucket.

  • For a free-standing bath, a mixer placed on a floor column is a good choice. It can be installed anywhere and the pipes can be hidden under the floor.

The shower mixer should have the correct cc measurement to fit your outlets. The standard measurement in the UK is 150 cc. But it's best to double-check. If you plan to replace the wall plate, check the size of your pipes too. You should also verify the required water pressure and whether the mixer is designed for hidden or external pipes.

Here are some tips to help you:

  • A hot water barrier can prevent burns from accidentally turning on the shower with hot water.

  • A swivel tap saves space and prevents accidental knocks during showering.

  • An eco function can help save water without reducing water pressure.

  • Levers instead of knobs can be easier for those with weak hands.
