3 tips when buying duvet covers

The bedding materials play an important role in how comfortable you feel while you sleep. There are many options available, each with their own unique qualities:

  • Satin is an incredibly soft and luxurious choice that feels silky smooth against your skin.
  • Linen works all year round. It keeps you cool in summer and warm during winter. It also gets more comfortable the more you use it, so it's a great investment that lasts year after year.
  • Flannel is a good choice if you get cold easily. It’s thick and warming, making it perfect for the colder months.
  • Percale is a fantastic choice for those who prefer a cool, crisp feeling while they sleep. Made from crisp cotton, it's like sleeping in a hotel bed every night.
  • Silk is one of the softest materials you can sleep in. It warms you if you’re cold, and cools you if you’re hot. It's also breathable, ensuring you won't wake up feeling sweaty.
  • Egyptian cotton is considered to be a top-quality choice. It also gives you that luxurious feel and has a high thread count, making it durable enough to last for years.

Thread count (TC) is an important factor to consider when choosing a duvet cover. It refers to the number of threads woven into each square inch of the fabric. Generally, the higher the thread count, the softer and more luxurious the fabric will feel. For a truly soft and comfortable experience, we recommend choosing a duvet cover with a thread count of at least 300.

In addition to the thread count, the weaving method also plays a role. For example, both percale and satin are made of cotton, but they’re woven in different ways – making satin softer and percale crisp.

When shopping for a duvet cover, it's important to look for certain certifications that can give you an idea of the product's quality and characteristics. Here are a few to keep an eye out for:

  • GOTS certification indicates that the duvet cover has been produced with both social and environmental considerations in mind, ensuring sustainability and ethical production methods.
  • If you suffer from allergies, look for the Nomite label which guarantees that the duvet cover is free of dust mites.
  • Oeko-Tex certification ensures that the duvet cover is free of harmful chemicals that could potentially be harmful to you and the environment.

It's also important to clean your duvet too, and this handy guide will show you how to do it effectively.
