Apple recently revealed their new line of iPhones, the iPhone 14. And all though we got a lavish pre-recorded event where we were presented with 2nd gen AirPods Pro, a Series 8 Watches and even a new Ultra Watch, the reveal of the new iPhone was, underwhelming. With little updates to the new models, and only a few interesting feature updates to the Pro models the general consensus seems to stand: the iPhone 14 is simply not worth the update, you should instead opt for the iPhone 13. We have compared all the new iPhone 14 models with the older iPhone13 models, so that you can make an informed decision on which phone to buy.
Starting off with the base models we can already see a big difference in terms of price the iPhone 13 originally cost £779 now £749, iPhone 14 is currently going on sale for £849, so already here we are seeing a big difference in the starting value. You can save about £100 by opting for the iPhone 13.
The difference in terms of specifications is as mentioned not massive. The differences between the new models is a slightly bigger and brighter main camera sensor, as well as safety features like Emergency SOS via satellite and Crash Detection. But for the first time Apple is not upgrading the chip with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, instead they will get the same (although slightly improved) A15 bionic chip. Beyond this iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 are more or less the same phone, so if you're not so fussed about the small upgrades you will most definitely save by buying the iPhone 13 instead.
The iPhone 13 Pro currently retails for £939 originally retailing for £949. iPhone 14 Pro will retail for £1,099. As far as changes go, the biggest changes between the 13 and 14 model can be seen in the Pro model. With the 14 Pro we get a slightly refined design, new colours, improved battery life and camera, these are expected updates that we see with every new generation. A few more unique and interesting upgrades, that may sway a potential buyer is the new always-on display, allowing you to keep certain information always-on. Although many were expecting the notch in hole design to disappear Apple instead did a 180 and put full focus on the infamous notch creating the so called Dynamic Island, which is a dynamic notch feature that will shift reflecting difference status indicators. In addition to this you will also get the new powerful A16 Chip, as well as the Emergency SOS via satellite and Crash Detection.
Even with all these upgrades the iPhone 13 Pro is still an excellent choice as far as premium phones go and would be a slightly more affordable option to the iPhone 14 Pro. If you already own the iPhone 13 Pro then you'd be better off waiting until the next iPhone release, where we hopefully will see some more significant updates.
