Expect the unexpected

On the 9th of February Samsung's presented their latest Galaxy Unpacked event. And with a royal introduction given to us by the Bridgerton-verse we were paradoxically introduced to the latest Galaxy S22 line up which samsung claims to be the "new epic standard".

The new Samsung Galaxy S22 series

The new series of galaxy phones will consist of the Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra. No radical changes have been made to this new series of mobile phones when compared to the S21-series, it's been more a case of fine tuning details.

Colour and design

Perhaps the most noticeable difference with the S22 is that the backside of the phone is made of glass as opposed to the S21 which had a plastic backing. It gives the phone a bit more of a premium feeling and supposedly makes it more durable. A major design difference is that the S22 ultra will now have the S Pen built into the phone a la 2005. Making it a sort of successor to the Galaxy Note. Much effort has been put on the functionality and performance of the S Pen. The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ will be available in the colours Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green and Pink. S22 Ultra will also be available in Burgundy.

Screen

Samsung always delivers great screens and the new S22 series is no exception to that rule. In terms of screen size there is no major difference between the S22 and S21, where they both are about 6,1 in. The screens on the S22+ and Ultra are somewhat larger at about 6.6 in and 6.8 in. All models are equipped with Vision booster which gives better colour contrast and automatically adjusts the screen depending on the environmental lighting. That max screen light capacity has also been increased to 1750 nits for the S22+ and Ultra.

Camera

The main camera for the S22 and S22+ has 50MP, 10MP lense and 12MP ultra wide lense along with a double set of 10 MP tele cameras. The Ultra model also comes with a main camera equipped with a massive 108MP. An improvement that has been made with this line of cameras is the night photography function, called Nightography, which is capable of capturing more light, colours and details even in low light settings. The entire series will also have an AI-function which allow your phone to help you take better pictures.

Battery and performance

The battery for this series is a bit smaller than in previous models and the capacity for the S22 is 3 700 mAh (which is 300 mAh less than the S21.) In spite of that optimised hardware and increased energy saving is supposed to ensure a longer battery life. If you purchase Samsung's quick charger 45W you should be able to charge your S22+ or Ultra in under an hour. The S22 and S22+ will be available with 128GB or 256GB storage, while Ultra will also be available with 512GB and 1TB storage.

Samsung Galaxy S22 series will be released on the 25th of February and is now available for pre-order.

Galaxy Tab S8, S8+ and S8 Ultra

The new Galaxy Tab S8 is the "thinnest, biggest, toughest" tab made by Samsung so far, and is an example of their new "epic standard". With the fastest chip ever on a Galaxy it, comes equipped with the 4nm mobile processor — the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The new chip promises 52% faster GPU and 24% faster CPU, making it great for gaming and video calling. The tab will have the 45W Super Fast Charger ensuring rapid charging. With the new S8 series you will also be able to connect all your Galaxy devices as the One UI 4.1 allows you to access all the same apps between your Galaxy S22 Series and Galaxy Tab S8 Series.

A new cool feature for the S8 tab is the "Second Screen" feature which will allow you to pair your tab with a second screen. So if you're drawing on your tab you can use your phone as the palette and seamlessly pull colours from the phone to the tab with just one touch. All tabs will come equipped with the new S Pen, that has higher sensitivity and response. It also will snap onto the tab with a magnetic holder. All tabs will come with either WiFi 6E or 5G and be able to record in 4K. Samsung but much weight on improving camera quality and adding stabilising features, as well as creating a tab that is great for conference calls.

So how does the Tab S8 hold up to the previous S7 model, in short the difference isn't massive. The main change would be in the features, but if you already have a S7 there is no need to update to and S8, however if you are in the market for a good reliable tablet and especially if you own a Galaxy phone then the S8 is a great option.
