You may have been wondering if the events of the past year have influenced the world of fashion and if so, to what extent? We have been curious ourselves, which is why we got in touch with award-winning men's fashion and lifestyle blogger Joey de Cordero to get his insights on how fashion has been evolving and adapting to the current state of the world.
Joey de Cordero is a Menswear & Lifestyle blogger from London and Founder/ Editor of The JoeyJournal. He fell into the world of blogging completely by accident while interning as a fashion assistant for a Fashion Stylist. From there he went on to work as a freelancer and continued to hone his skill as a journalist by working for publications like Yahoo! Style.
Pairing his journalist experience with his degree in Fashion from The London College of Fashion, he eventually founded his own Men’s Lifestyle Blog. The blog has been a growing success and last year The JoeyJournal received industry recognition by being named one of the “Top 10 UK Men’s Lifestyle Blogs” by Vuelio of 2020.
When it comes to trends I always look at what people are wearing on the streets. Fashion Week is a great example of this, where ‘Street Style’ dominates people’s perception of what style really is. For instance, show goers in the main fashion capitals mix high end luxury designers with less expensive items, drawing their inspiration from Runway looks to create their own unique style. Looking at previous season’s, street wear has become a cult trend as designers want to tap into a new market by making luxury goods more accessible but still keeping it exclusive.
Right now the pandemic is dictating the fashion trends that we see. Designer Houses have embraced this and created their own signature spin on hyper fashion luxury lounge and cosy comfort wear, which I noticed trending at Milan Fashion Week last month.
The pandemic has greatly influenced people’s consumer habits and led to lifestyle changes where people are more considerate of making sustainable fashion choices. People are opting for comfortable and practical outfits suitable for being at home, and going back to basics with casual easy wears for everyday use.
Great question! I think the most essential closet staples every capsule wardrobe should include would be a classic statement leather jacket and white t-shirts because they are both so versatile and so easy to both dress up or dress down. These staples are definitely my go-to and make for great weekend options to have on standby for an understated look.

When I look into making a new purchase for clothes it’s a decision based on investing in classic styles and good quality pieces, it's important to me to buy something that is well-made. At present we are seeing a shift in adopting a more sustainable way of living to make things last and not be so careless with our spending habits when it comes to fashion.
The longevity of a garment and how it’s made is just as important as style. In my opinion choose an aesthetic that is timeless.
The idea of fast fashion has never really appealed to me because I’d rather own something that’s one of a kind and unique which makes it more special. Vintage is a good place to start especially nowadays you have vintage re-sellers like De-Pop to my current favourite VestiaireCollective.com with a selection of luxury pre-owned designer apparel.
A question I’m often asked…What is the key to great style? Well I think great style is all about having confidence and feeling good in the clothes you’re in. Personally I think individual style is more important than religiously following trends which can also be an expensive habit. It’s also good to experiment with different brands at different price points to create new looks for outfits and be more authentic with your own Style DNA.
