Three tipd before buying resistance bands

To get the most out of your rubber band exercise, it’s important to choose a band with the right resistance. Different bands offer different levels of resistance, and kilo intervals can vary between 1–50 kilos.

The level of resistance you should choose depends on your capacity and the muscle group you are exercising. Some bands are sold in single packs, but it is also common for them to be sold in multi-packs with several different resistance levels. You can often also combine several bands to achieve the desired resistance.

Different exercise bands have different lengths, and the length you should choose depends on the type of exercise you want to do.

  • The standard length of a short training band is 60 cm, which is ideal for leg and buttock exercises.
  • There are also long rubber bands that measure over 200 cm. These are ideal for supporting you at the gym during exercises such as pull-ups or chin-ups.

Start by thinking about whether you want a fitness band with or without a handle. What works best is mainly a matter of taste but, for example, dumbbell exercises can usually be facilitated by having proper handles.

If you want handles on your fitness band, the next step is to think about the type of handle you want. There are different types of handles, and some rubber bands have softer and more grippable handles than others. If you’re a beginner and haven't exercised a lot with rubber bands before, we recommend that you choose soft handles to avoid calloused hands.

Here are tips for five simple exercises to do with an exercise band at home to keep both body and heart in shape.
