Since they’re usually both bagless and cordless, they’re very convenient and lighter than canister vacuums – but can’t clean for as long due to limited battery life. Robot vacuum cleaner: The best choice if you hate vacuuming or need to clean frequently. A robot is self-propelled, but requires the floor to be level and the furniture to be placed in a way that ensures it won’t get stuck.

Vacuum cleaners aren’t just for your floors, they can help you clean upholstery, counter tops, curtains, etc. So buy a model that comes with accessories or is adaptable – such as different types of nozzles – for vacuuming mouldings, sofas and suchlike.

Look for vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters if you have allergies or are sensitive to dust. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air and means that 99.95% of small micro-particles, such as dust, dust mites and pollen, are trapped in the filter.
