Three tips for buying a sunshade sail

The choice between manual and automatic sail awning, or sunshade sail, depends primarily on how easy you want things. An automatic sunshade sail has a motor that extends it, either when you press a button or via sensors that detect when the sun is shining.

Manual sails will naturally have to be extended by hand.

The material used for the sail awning plays a major role in its service life, properties and quality.

  • Breathable. By choosing a fabric that breathes, you ensure that the temperature remains comfortable under the sail, even when the sun is at its zenith.
  • UV-protected. Make sure to choose a material that resists UV radiation, so that it's not bleached by the sun.
  • Impregnated. Impregnation against dirt and mould is a great idea.

There are advantages and disadvantages to water-repellent sunshade sails. On the one hand, you can stay underneath them when it starts to rain without getting wet. On the other, water may collect in the cloth, eventually causing it to tear. If it gets too heavy, the brackets may also break. A tip is to mount a waterproof sunshade sail at an angle so that the water can run down the side.

With a sail awning that lets water through, this is not a problem. But then you'll also need to remember to take in cushions and other objects you don't want getting wet.

There are of course a few other things to think about before you buy your sail awning, like taking the correct measurements, how to mount it and so on. Luckily we've found this guide for you to help you on the way!
