Three tips when buying an infrared heater

Outdoor areas can look vastly different, and the design of your seating area matters when choosing a suitable heater.

  • Hanging: These heaters are often panel shaped. This type of heater is mounted above the area and is therefore suitable if you have a walled outdoor area. Once fitted, it produces a more concentrated output and is more discreet than other models.
  • Floor standing: These models are much more portable as they don’t require fixed installations. This allows you to move the heater around to suit the situation. Another advantage of floor-standing infrared heaters is that they often emit heat in all directions.

In order to keep electricity costs down while making sure you’re not freezing, think about the most efficient place to put the heater and get one with adjustable temperature options. Some patio heaters can be controlled with an app to change the temperature, either seamlessly or in steps. If there isn’t an app option, remote controls are also common.

Other models have only one fixed position. They are usually a bit cheaper, and their maximum output is often slightly lower than the adjustable ones.

Many infrared heaters have extra features such as speakers, cosy lighting or a Bluetooth connection. Apart from that, the feature that affects the price the most is the heater’s maximum output.

Heaters with many output levels and a high maximum output are considerably more expensive than models with a lower output and just a single mode. Stylish materials and connectivity options naturally put the price up.
