3 tips when shopping for a baby carrier

An ergonomic baby carrier provides the baby with a comfortable seating, known as the M-position, where their bottom is positioned lower than their knees. The carrier should also support the natural curve of the baby's back, forming a C shape.

It's also important to follow the T.I.C.K.S acronym for baby carrier safety:

  • tight
  • in view at all times
  • close enough to kiss
  • keep chin off the chest
  • supported back

Ergonomic baby carriers keep your baby comfortable and safe during your adventures together.

To avoid discomfort and strain when carrying your baby, choose a carrier that suits different body types. Here's the check list:

  • Hip belts. Provides better relief for your back and shoulders so you can carry your baby for longer periods.

  • Shoulder straps. Shouls be long enough to fit your body comfortably. Padded straps are more comfortable, but can be too bulky to wear under a jacket.

  • Crossed shoulder straps. Hugs your baby closer and distributes its weight more evenly.

When choosing a baby carrier, think about how and when you plan to use it:

  • For newborns, opt for a model that doesn't require an extra infant insert.

  • In warm weather, choose a carrier made of breathable mesh.

  • To carry older children, check the maximum weight limit and ensure the carrier panel is high enough for safe seating.
