Three tips when buying a reusable mug

It's convenient to have a [leak-proof mug](/cl/461/ Kitchen-Accessories?attr_57253724=60161830&attr_59699389=60171872) that can be put in your handbag or backpack without risking leaks onto your work computer or workout clothes. Mugs with small, quick-opening drinking holes are unsuitable, but thermos-like mugs with a handy locking mechanism can tolerate rolling around in your bag without leaking.

Reusable mugs are available in a variety of models, from simple plastic to more advanced thermos-type mugs that will keep your drink warm for hours. The latter are also suitable for keeping cold drinks chilled on the beach during the day – why not try replacing hot coffee with iced coffee?

It is undoubtedly convenient (and cost saving) to bring your own coffee from home with you in a thermo mug, but is the reusable mug really that sustainable that one might think? Read more about it here and draw your own conclusion.

In addition to staying warm and sealed, there are three other features you should keep your eye out for:

  • Dishwasher safe. It's always a plus not to have to wash by hand, regardless of the product. Go for a mug that is [dishwasher safe](/cl/461/ Kitchen-Accessories?attr_57253724=60161830&attr_59699389=59699400).
  • Fits your car’s cup holder. It's safer and more comfortable to have your mug in the holder than trying to keep it between your knees. Can you take your reusable mug with you in the car?
  • Spill-free opening. Coffee pouring down the corners of your mouth probably won't make you happy. Check the reviews to make sure you can drink without spills.
