FAQ

Shampoo is used to remove oil and dirt from your scalp, the stuff that makes your hair dirty. It usually takes the form of a viscous liquid, but can come in the form of a bar as well. Depending on the formula, shampoos often work to give you har a particular look or feel, whether it be smooth, voluminous or hydrated.

There are a couple of things that are important to know to be able to find the right shampoo:

  • Dry scalp: If your head often feels a bit itchy or tight, you have a dry scalp. An anti-dandruff or sulfate-free shampoo should do the trick for you.
  • Oily scalp: Hair that often looks shiny, most likely is attached to an oily scalp. Find a shampoo that is silicone free and focuses on stabilising your scalp’s oiliness.
  • Combination scalp: If your hair gets dirty two or three days after washing it with shampoo versus the day after, you’ve got a combination scalp. Most shampoos work a treat on combination scalps, so get testing and see which smell, style and result you like the best. The shampoo world is your (very nice smelling) oyster.

There are shampoos created for every hair type under the sun. Here are a couple of pointers on shampoo and hair types:

  • Coloured/Damaged/Brittle hair: Strengthening and fortifying shampoo is best for hair that’s been exposed to chemicals or is generally brittle. Look for ones containing keratin, a protein that your hair just loves.
  • Straight hair: Find a shampoo that is rich in moisture, which helps your straight hair look slick and smooth.
  • Fine hair: Look for volumising shampoos that add extra life to your hair, without weighing it down.
  • Textured hair: Use a shampoo that focuses on maintaining, refilling and locking in moisture. You can never get enough moisture.
