Three tips for buying permanent hair colour

If you have very light hair, you probably won't get black or fiery red hair after one colouring session. Perhaps you need to find a shade in-between first.

Also bear in mind that you can never go lighter with permanent hair colour. To go lighter, you need to lighten your hair with bleach.

Sometimes it can be a little difficult to know what the products' numbers mean. For best result check out this guide of what those numbers really tell you about the nuance of the box in your hand....

If you have long hair, buy one packet more than you think you will need, just in case – there’s nothing sadder than standing there with half your hair smeared and realising that you do not have enough. There is a risk that you will get a patchy result. If you shop online, it is always possible to return unused and unopened products within 14 days, sometimes longer – check the return policy for the online store that you buy from.

Was the shade not exactly what you wanted? Or was it exactly what you were hoping for? Your new colour may need some maintenance, in order to retain the right shade. By regularly using pigment masks, often referred to as colour bombs, you can adjust the shade or add pigment between colourations, if your hair starts to look dull or lifeless.
