Timer: The simplest form of water controller is a timer with a nozzle connected to the garden’s water supply. The watering time can be set with a dial of the same type that can be found on most household timer units. Advanced water controller: There are also water controllers with more advanced functions for programming the water flow. These water controllers cost a bit more and are often equipped with some form of display where you can control the settings.

Smart water controller: A smart water controller offers connectivity and control via a smartphone app. Smart water controllers are available in more or less advanced versions, but are a convenient solution for anyone who wants to be able to manage everything remotely, or who just don’t want to go out into the garden. • Child lock function: Kids like buttons. This is an indisputable fact and is also the reason behind a lot of accidents. The easiest way to avoid this is to make sure that your water controller has a child lock.

• UV protection: If the water controller is exposed to sunlight, you should make sure that the material is durable. The water controller should preferably also have some form of UV protection. An overheated water controller can lead to functionality problems.

• Frost protection: At the other end of the climate scale we have frost, which seems to come as a surprise every year. Make sure your water controller has some kind of frost protection.
