3 tips when buying a Christmas tree stand

Christmas tree stands nowadays come with 3–4 screws or a small foot pedal that allows you to clamp the tree in place with ease.

Do you like the idea of a slightly futuristic-looking stand with pedal feet, which makes clamping the tree effortless? Or do you prefer the classic option of manually screwing the tree into place? The choice is entirely yours.

Here are some things to keep in mind when looking for a Christmas tree stand:

  • If you're looking for stability, go for a traditional stand with 4 screws instead of 3.

  • A heavier stand is ideal for a taller tree. Even shorter Christmas trees will be much more stable in a heavier stand.

  • Choose a stand with a larger diameter for your Nordmann fir tree. This tree has a coarser trunk than most other firs, so it needs a stand with a bit more room.

  • A larger stand will help avoid daily watering. Go for a larger stand with a capacity of at least a few litres.

Many modern Christmas tree stands have a handy water indicators that let you know when it's time to add more water to your stand. No more crouching down to check or sticking your finger in to feel if your tree needs watering.
