Three tips before buying a slow juicer

First and foremost, you should consider how big a juice container you need. Slow juicers are available in different sizes – ranging from smaller models that hold less than half a litre, to multi-litre juice containers. If you’re going to make 1–2 glasses of juice, half a litre of juice may seem reasonable, but it may be a good idea to choose a larger model so that you can also store juice in the fridge.

The larger the capacity of the slow juicer, the larger the machine usually is. Most models require a little more space than a normal kitchen cupboard, which can be a good thing to keep in mind when buying your slow juicer.

To make sure that you use the slow juicer as much as possible, it is important to choose a model that is smooth and easy to use.

  • You want the juicing to be as effective as possible, and this also includes your ease of cutting fruit and vegetables. Different slow juicers have differently shaped feed tubes through which you add ingredients, and the size of these may vary. So if you don't like chopping vegetables and fruit into small pieces, it can be an important thing to keep in mind.

  • Another factor that can affect how often the juicer is used is how easy it is to clean. Vegetable and fruit residues dry quickly, so it is important to clean the juicer thoroughly after each use. Some models come with cleaning brushes that make cleaning easier, but these are also available separately. For those of you who don't like handwashing, there are slow juicers that are dishwasher safe.

  • Choice of speed: Depending on the ingredients you want to juice, different speeds will be suitable, which makes it useful for the slow juicer to have different speed options.

  • Cleaning function: Some models come with cleaning functions that make cleaning the machine easier.

  • Drip stop: One function that may seem insignificant, but can really make using the juicer easier, is a drip stop. Avoid unnecessary spilling and juice loss.
