Three things to consider before buying a sandwich toaster

When it comes to the quality of sandwich grills, you can find everything from basic models for just about twenty pounds, to more advanced grills for several hundred pounds. Your needs and requirements for the sandwich grill play a major role in what the price tag will end up being.

For those who place high demands on their sandwich grill, and who will use it frequently, it may be worth spending a few extra pounds on it. The more expensive models tend to have a more robust and sturdy design, and often include a more durable material, such as stainless steel. This is a material that’s easier to maintain and keep clean, compared to e.g. plastic – which is a common material used in cheaper sandwich grills.

  • Indicator light: A light that illuminates when the grill is preheated, and a light that illuminates when the sandwich is ready, makes cooking easier and ensures that you get a perfectly cooked sandwich every time.

  • Replaceable plates: Replaceable plates not only make cleaning easier, but often mean that you can replace the plates and use the grill as a table grill or waffle iron. Some models come with several different plates, but sometimes you may need to buy them separately.

  • Cool casing: Don't worry about burning your fingers on the casing when using the sandwich grill. A cool casing makes using the machine much safer.

As with many other things, user-friendliness probably plays a role in how often the sandwich grill will be used. We are all familiar with the experience of cooking food and having it burn to the grill. That's why we recommend buying a sandwich grill with a non-stick coating. This minimises the risk of the sandwich burning into the plates, and also makes cleaning much easier.

Cleaning is probably also a factor that determines how often you’ll use your sandwich grill. Make sure you choose a grill with removable plates, so you can remove them for cleaning. With some models, you can even wash the plates in the dishwasher.
