Guy Fawkes Day - 4 tips to celebrate in style at home!

Kaelan Robinson

Although there won't be any parades or public festivities this year you can still celebrate in style at home and enjoy a firework display in the comfort of your home with your family on November 5th, we have some great tips to let you celebrate Guy Fawkes Day with ease and delight!

What is Guy Fawkes Day?

For those who perhaps don't know about Guy Fawkes Day or the history behind the occasion; without getting too deep into the historical nitty-gritty of the occasion, Guy Fawkes Day observes the failed conspiracy and attempt to assassinate King James I of England in 1605 by placing stocks of gunpowder under the House of Lords.

Guy Fawkes was one of the key conspirators who was arrested whilst guarding the explosives on November 5th and when news broke out that the assassination attempt on the King had failed, people began lighting bonfires across London to celebrate. Since then, November 5th has been the annual calendar date where Guy Fawkes Day is celebrated in the UK and the Commonwealth.

Today, the holiday is observed in a similar fashion with bonfires, burning of Guy Fawkes effigies and firework displays becoming notable traditions associated with Guy Fawkes Day. Public parades, house parties and all manner of festivities have also become mainstays of the event. Of course this year will be an exception to the regular celebrations. But you can still celebrate Guy Fawkes Day at home safely.
