Cycle together with the family: Popular bike wagons

Kaelan Robinson

With bikes growing in popularity as a means of travel, the need to also cycle with the family comes to mind. For those who want to easily alternate between cycling solo and taking the kids with you, there are loads of bike wagons out there that make for a smart choice.

How bike wagons work

There are many different types of bike wagons. They can vary in having one or two seats and those with two seats of course can be used to carry one child as well. Simpler bike wagon models rarely have many features. However, with a walking wheel to allow the bike wagon to double as a stroller is almost always included. More expensive models can be equipped with everything from recliners, to adjustable handles and extra storage space. Some also offer the possibility of being able to be used whist jogging, or even pulled behind you when cross-country skiing.

5 things to think about when choosing a bike wagon

  1. What is the max weight of the wagon, and how much do your kids weigh?
  2. Make sure to take growing into account when looking at seating space and remember that your kids should be able to sit comfortably with a helmet on.
  3. Will you use the bike wagon when going shopping? Choose a model with more storage space so that you can also carry some grocery bags.
  4. If you intend on alternating often between bike and walking mode, you should choose a model that allows for easy changing of the bike handles into a small wheel.
  5. Will your kids sleep in the wagon? If so, a model that can recline in the seating part is a very smart choice.
